UCH Received N5m Cash, N25m Worth Of Materials- Oyo Govt.



Oyo State government gave the University College Hospital, UCH, five million naira to support its fight against COVID-19 to ensure the hospital management does not keep demanding for support from the government on a daily basis.

This was revealed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Taiwo Adisa while speaking on Ibadan-based radio station Fresh FM on Friday.

Adisa, who gave the explanation in a bid to bring to fore the governments side of the ongoing exchange of words with the UCH, also revealed that the government also supported the hospital with N25 million worth of materials.

The commissioner for Finance announced that the state government has supported the UCH to the tune of N118 . But the UCH management said there is distinction between the institution, the Department of Virology and the College of Medicine.

“Based on that classification, we have further clarified that the State has supported the Department of Virology to the tune of N86.9 million. That Department has since acknowledged that much. We did not give anybody cash and we have to clarify that because, we understand the issue with procurement in an emergency situation.

 There are issues with transportation and the general lockdown. The N5million we gave was decided in front of the CMD (of UCH) at the COVID-19 Task Force meeting. It was the Governor of Oyo State that agreed that we should approve N5m for the UCH. The money was given to them so that they dont keep coming to the government everyday or every week and the Commissioner for Finance has it in the book that the money has left the coffers of Oyo State,Adisa, Makindes Spokesman said.


He explained further, “The N25m we talked about is in the materials. The state government did not approve cash for anyone because there was an issue when the state government wanted to assist the UCH and it gave it some money. They said the money went into TSA account and that they could not access it immediately.

“So, when this issue of N5m came up, the Governor specifically asked the CMD if the money will not go the way of the first commitment that the state government gave. And the CMD gave the commitment at that meeting that it would not go the way of the earlier one and then the Governor approved the money.

“The state government knows the problem of procurement this time as it relates to COVID-19. The position of Oyo State government now is, we gave UCH N5million and materials worth N25million to fight the pandemic. And the money has already left the coffers of the state government after it was approved.”
He also stated that the state government does not have business having interchange with the UCH because it owns every land in the state noting that If there are issues of support they need from the Oyo State government, they can request for it just the same way the Chief Medical Director, recently, brought a letter to the government. And the state government can only do what is within its capacity because it has responsibility for all other hospitals in the state as well.

“I will just advise the UCH to stick to its responsibility according to the mandate given to it by the Federal Government. If there are issues with them receiving the money, they should check their system very well. If the Accountant General of Oyo State has asked them to do some certain things, why not comply with those things rather than going on air to announce something else,”Adisa added.

All TESCOM Applicants to update their Records- Oyo Govt. (Check date)

   Oyo state government has directed all applicants who applied for the Teaching Service Commission jobs to visit the website and upload the details of their credentials and personal data.   Mrs.  Grace Olabisi Oderinde, Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Post Primary Schools Service Commission (TESCOM) state this in a released post on social media on Thursday.  The exercise is for those who have obtained and submitted application forms in the on-going recruitment exercise. They are expected to do so between Monday, 13th and Saturday 18th July, 2020 for further processing of their applications. “Please note that ONLY applicants who have already filled and submitted the application forms are eligible for this exercise. “We hereby enjoin all applicants to take note of this development, as failure to comply will lead to forfeiture of such application,” the announcement reads.

Federal Government Increase petrol price to N143.80 per litre

The Federal Government has announced a new pump price for premium motor spirit (PMS). The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has announced that the new pump price of petrol is between N140.80-N143.80 per litre. Nigerians might witness another hike in retail price for petrol as the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) has recommended an upward review from N121.50. The agency recommended that a litre of petrol should now be sold between N140.80 and N143.80. The Cable reports that the agency in a statement wrote:  “After a review of the prevailing market fundamentals in the month of June and considering marketers’ realistic operating costs, as much as practicable, we wish to advise a new PMS pump price band of N140.80 – N143.80/litre for the month of July 2020.”

Over 3million Applications in one week-- N-Power

The online portal for the recruitment of the third batch of N-Power enrolees has witnessed over 3million applications in a week. The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development commenced the enrolment process of the third batch of the N-Power beneficiaries on 26th June 2020. A week after the portal was opened for application, the ministry said over 3million applications have been received. The Government said 400,000 applicants will be absorbed into the third batch of its N-Power National Social Investment Scheme (NSIP).
